Handmade Gifts

I am blessed by fabulous people in my life!  I received some amazing handmade gifts for Ollie I finally am sharing.

I got this little gnome doll from my friend Darby at Underground Vintage Studio.  I about died when I opened it.  I had searched Etsy for months for the perfect gnome doll without luck.  I am in love with this doll.  As well as everything else that Darby makes!

My cousin Ellen made me a matching quilt for Ollie's bedding.  I about died when I opened this baby too.  I showed all my co-workers that day!  I am loving it!  The giant ric rac & the matching fabric.  It's amazing.  I love Ellen like a big sister!!

This banner was made by Maggie's co-worker, Casey.  She's also super talented & it's perfect in Ollie's room on the curtains.  It's not a great picture, but Ollie's name is in red with white polka dots & the last banner flag has a birds nest.  It's strung on a yellow ribbon - adorable!

That's just a small taste of what Miss Ollie has received, but just a few of the handmade items she'll grow up to love!!

Caroline's Room

Sweet Caroline's room is filled with treasures that Maggie has collected!  She has a fabulous white armoire that was a steal!  One of her favorite things to do is to read books so she has her own reading corner setup with all her favorite books.

She has a strand of butterflies topped with glittery wings, and a picture of her with her Mama and Da-E.  Maggie is a creative wizard with mixed media.  Give her some glitter and she'll make anything regular into something fabulous.  This frame was plain, now it's a sweet memory of when Caroline turned them into a family.

Maggie also made this tree branch above the chair.  It's darling, as are the baby prints.

Caroline's dresser has more fabulous treasures.  An old baby scale brings the vintage while hot pink brings some fun.  When you collect what you love, it always works no matter what.

Maggie's dear friend made this dream catcher for Caroline when she was just a baby.  It's one of Maggie's favorite things in Caroline's room.  It's spectacular!

Caroline LOVES cats and doggies so Abbie painted her some special artwork for above her bed.  The flower is a nightlight from Ikea that is super cute.

Her bedding is cats and doggies, and she sleeps like a champ already in her new room.

It won't be long & this chubby thighed little lady will be moved into a big girl bed, and baby Pinto will be moved into this shared room!  Only 6 months until August!!

Isn't she a doll!  She loves Trudie so much & is just sure she should be Trudie's mama.

Baby Ollie's Room

Today is the big day.  We meet with the doctor at 10AM CST.  So pray pray pray for a good heart evaluation at our level II sonogram.

Since Jade & I will be off to see the doctor I wanted to show you the happy we have in our home for Ollie.  We still don't know if Ollie is a girl or a boy, but Ollie is the name for either sex - another name of a great grandpa.  We named all our children after their great grandpas & it's special to us.  Ollie is Jade's grandpa.  We never knew him, but his Dad said he was so much like Jade - and well Jade's spectacular so Ollie must have been too.

Anyway - here is Ollie's room.  I started on it very early fully expecting it to take me a long time.  Before I could start, we had to move Aubrie & Everett into a shared room & I had to get all the baby boy & girl clothes out of tubs in the basement - rewash them & hang them up.  However, it didn't take me nearly as long as I expected & the room is pretty much ready.  Of course when Ollie arrives as a boy or a girl - it will need some tweaking to make it perfectly special.

This is the view when you walk in the door.  This used to be Everett's room.  We kept it red for a boy or a girl.

The crib we received as a gift at my baby shower with Aubrie.  It was from JC Penney.  She never slept in it - she was stubborn, but Everett loved this crib, this music box, and this mobile.  I can't believe how old he is now & that he used to sleep 7 to 7 here!  PS - I know the crib is extremely low right now, but my beautiful neice, Caroline, naps here until Ollie arrives.

I found this print on an adorable Etsy site.  I kid you not, the picture she showed for sale with the baby name already said Ollie and had this gnome on it - it was fate.

I found the fabric for the bedding at Fabric.com & it is perfect!  It's quirky & fun and most of all happy.  My husband was nervous when I said gnomes - he thought gnomes were scary - until he saw these!  They are so me.

I adore the bumper with the gnome village & mushroom houses with the clothesline at the top - perfection it is.  Thank you again Esther for sewing this for Ollie & for all the prayers you said while you made it for our special baby!

These cards were at the same Etsy site as the gnome print.  I love them & they are just right with the bedding.  Simple, but cute.

This is the reading corner.

I bought this adorable fox from a friend.  She crafts the most fabulous pillows, purses, jewelry & also a soon to be children's line.  Since my maiden name is Fox - I HAD to have it for Ollie.  The quilt was handmade by my Aunt for Aubrie - how I love handmade baby blankets!

Books are a staple in my house.  My kids aren't into toys too much.  They love to read & craft.  So we have joined many book clubs & my house overflows with children's books.  I look forward to reading with baby Ollie.  Here I have another giant fox - I can't say no to a good stuffed fox!

These prints were given to me by my Mom when I had Aubrie.  They have been in all the baby rooms & are the perfect bedtime prayer.  They are hand stitched & I love them.

The changing table is really a vanity.  I have used it with all my babies and it works great to store diapers & wipes & ointments.   Everything is at a hands reach.  I painted it a bright blue for Ollie.  The gray armoire was Everett's when he was in this room - it holds so many clothes!

I'm not normally a blue person, but I love this blue.  It is happy to me.  It will probably bounce to Aubrie's room when she is older to be used as an actual vanity.

I painted this armoire gray for Everett & I still love it.  Now if Ollie is a girl I can't promise it will stay gray, but it probably will.  The gray just makes all the imperfections of this old piece stand out & I love furniture that has been beaten up over time!

This rolling basket was found at my Dad's concrete company & Mom gave it to me.  I love it!  It holds extra stuffed animals for now.  When Ollie arrives I'll find a better purpose for it, but I'm just not sure what that purpose is yet!  For now Aubrie has loaned Ollie some of her stuffed animals, but Ted E. Bear in the center is mine - I got him when I was 5 from my Uncle.

For those of you thinking - how in the world do you not know the sex of Ollie...here is your answer.  Jade would tell you it's because I'm the most organized person in the world - which is just partially true.  These are the clothes I have gathered from Aubrie & Everett & then unisex clothes at the top right.  This is just the sleepers, blankets, towels, and burp clothes.  The armoire is full of socks, hats, pant sets, and onesies.  Oh see my fabulous diaper bag!  I do large purses instead of typical diaper bags - it's how I roll!

As you can see we are ready and waiting for baby Ollie (we have a long wait until February!)  We have a room full of joy & things we love setup and waiting.  It's filled with memories of our two younger children and dreams for our 3rd perfect child.  So keep the prayers coming.  Jade & I are doing well and very excited about our baby - DS or not - heart defect or not.  God is great all of the time!

I leave you with this bible verse.  I recently found it & it is one of my favorite verses now.
:
"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!"

Psalm 139:13-18

The Best of Friends Share Rooms

This weekend my Mom helped me finish a tough job!  That is why she is absolutely the best!

Aubrie and Everett moved in together.  It was a challenge since Aubrie's old room was over the top girly & Everett's room involved anything with 4 wheels and John Deere green.
However, we did it and I'm thrilled.  They have rooms that still speak to their personality, but also mix my love of odd collections and old to match the rest of my house.  One thing is a bit different though - I painted it gray!  Did I shock you there since I didn't go a crazy color?  I actually really like gray & it was a good backdrop to make a gender neutral room.

Here is the view from the door.  We had one twin bed so we bought a second to give them each their own "little" bed which is what sold them the idea of a shared room.

Everett's side has a fantastic orange quilt courtesy of my mother.  The comforter was $16 at Walmart & then $7 for the sheet set in his favorite color - turquoise!  Oh and the floating tractor to the left is the fan pull.  They both LOVE tractors since Pa is a real hard core farmer.

Both kids have matching red iron headboards.  They were actually made from one twin bed, but my Dad the super welder made the foot board match the height of the headboard so they could each have one.  This ties their beds together nicely.

Everett's wall contains his collections.  I love old signs & he loves trucks and tractors so it's perfect for the tiny farmer that he is.

I pulled this dresser from my foyer & put Aubrie's fabulous pink dresser in its place.  The pink was just too much to go in a boy's room, but is perfect in my foyer.  I am very pleased with the dresser as a nightstand.  It's the perfect size & the right color to stay gender neutral.

Here is the glitter princess' side.  She is still happy because she has her pinks and also her collections.  Trust me mixing in her pale pink was a tough job, but we did it and love the after look!

She too has a fabulous quilt from my Mom and the other matching red headboard.  The green comforter was again $16 from Walmart with $7 sheets.  She chose hot pink her favorite color.

Her wall displays her favorite things:  A cat painting from Aunt Abbie, lots of pink, elephants, a glitter chandy, & numbers - she's all about the education!

To house Everett's clothes and Aubrie's giant snow globe collection, we kept this old fabulous cabinet in the room.

Are you loving it?  Because I agree it's a fabulous set.  The paint under the white is turquoise - you can't tell from the picture, but oh my it's gorgeous ladies!

The top shelf is full of snow globes.  The second shelf is fully devoted to Miss Aubrie.  She has tons of elephants & fairies.  The bottom shelf is for the tiny farmer.  He did need some space to show off his old trucks & trailers since his sister is the master of collections.

I love their new room.  It shows off their personality, but also mine as well which is important.  The best part - CHEAP!  I spent $32 on two comforters, $14 on two sets of sheets, and $65 on the second bed.  Everything else we already owned.  So even though my basement storage room is like a bad episode of hoarders, but a bit more organized.  I now am glad I keep all that "junk" I collect for times like this!  My next large project room - the nursery!

Date Night

OK if you saw the movie Date Night I hope you are thinking of the car scene & laughing because that scene kills me...now onto my story.

One of the best things in life is a date night with your husband & no kids.  They are just fantastic!  The only thing better is a surprise date night!  A date that you didn't plan, where you didn't get your hopes up and call 4 different babysitters to try to line the date up, only to find out it's Homecoming for something busy and you can't go at all.

Saturday night we had a surprise date night.  Jade's Mom took both kids overnight & to church the next day.  We were thrilled as were the kids!  So what did we do?

Dinner & a movie Saturday night, then we threw in a paint job & bedroom redo Sunday morning!

Excuse the mess - our motto - when painting - pile everything on the bed!

Both kids are officially sharing a room.  the furniture is in place, but there isn't a stitch of anything on the walls yet.  This will all change, but for now they are settled & thrilled with their new room that is now gray instead of blue.  Aubrie proclaimed Gray may be her next favorite color which made me laugh - she's such her mother's daughter with her colors!

They are enjoying their new "little beds" - more pictures to come when the room is completed and looks decent!

If you thought I was crazy before...

buckle your seat belts!  I think I finally found the perfect bedding for the nursery.  It is by no means traditional.

They baby is going into Everett's red room while Everett and Aubrie are moving in together in a hip & cool room coming sometime this fall.  So the nursery is staying red.  I really didn't want to repaint it and I like the color just fine & Everett has gray furniture that will stay and be super cute!  Now, remember I don't want to find out the sex of the baby, however that is still a big debate in my house - my husband is VERY stubborn.  A family friend is going to sew bedding for me.  I wanted something unique and quirky like my style, and something that is gender neutral.

Ta da - the answer is garden gnomes!  Did you laugh out loud?

Dead serious!  This fabric is fabulous!  It has all the red I need, it could be for a boy or a girl, and it's happy & vintage looking.  I don't really want a bedroom theme because I get sick of those in a year or two.  This fabric allows me to buy vintage & old things that I already like to make it work - even better when kids shift around bedrooms in the future, I have fabulous treasures to move around with them.  Perfect!

This is going to be the sheet fabric - I love the gnome with glasses!

This this perfection will be the bumper - one side red polka dots & the other a village of gnomes.  I totally dig it.

So it's unpredictable & fun.  I'm excited & can't wait to hear from the family friend to know it's going to work to get this business ordered and in the works!
