Everett's Pad

I finally finished up Everett Mason's room.  His favorite color is turquoise - can you tell???

He is THRILLED with his new bunk beds.  He shows everyone that comes over - it's adorable!

Next to find - some fun throw pillows - his bed looks naked!

A Grown Up Pad

This past weekend Maggie, Kylie, Caroline, & Penelope moved into their new house through the woods.  In the move, Aubrie landed Maggie & Kylie's old bedroom - it's huge!

She couldn't be more thrilled!

Everett goes on and on and on every time he comes down about how beautiful it is, how much work I put into it for Aubrie, and then tries to sleep with Aubrie.

Every time she gets so mad that he's in her room & kicks him out.  She proceeded to make a sign that says "No Boys Allowed.  An image of a boy crossed out, with a small footnote - Dad Yes!"  Hilarious!

It's a work in progress, but overall I'm pretty pleased with the look!  It seems so grown up like a Tween - how did that happen?  She's only 7!

My next job is to paint the dresser I think pink her favorite color.  I know people are out there cringing, but as always - I don't like wood - so it's getting painted!

Stay tuned - the other bedroom is becoming a fitness room & Everett's room is *almost* done!

Spring has Sprung!

I like to decorate for the seasons, but I don't have an overwhelming amount of Easter items.

So I put some of the bunnies & eggs throughout my kitchen cabinets. I created a display on my island to show off my favorite things.

I absolutely adore chocolate bunnies so I have a fake one & I put it on a pedestal surrounded with some easter grass & a small bottle brush/egg wreath.

I pared this up with a cloche covering up some eggs with spray painted twigs from my winter display.

Another bowl of eggs is topped off with a really fluffy chick.

I then switched out my winter display with twigs with some giant over-sized tulips. Two old children's chairs on an antique cabinet - love it!

An Office To Enjoy

So I blogged about Jade & his business partner's before office & the decorating plan here.  Well I forgot to share the afters!

It came together very nicely.  Now, I will say it is the office that perpetually shrinks!  It's not very big, and as they got more and more equipment it became smaller and smaller!  It's on Main St. in our town right behind Maggie's hair salon.  The guys love this because they can get a hair cut any day of the week (I secretly think they get an eye brow wax too!)  They also like to joke around with my sister & pull pranks on each other as well.  Imagine walking into your very girly purple bathroom (that they share) to find a huge UFC poster on the wall.  Or walking out of your manly office into a curtain of beads - they liked that too!

So here is a waiting area.  To the left is the door.  They have an antique surveying tripod that they are proud of.  I'm not sure the books will stay in the window, but at the same time they do not have room for bookshelves either.  I really like the gray walls & the laminate flooring they put in.  Such an improvement from the befores!!

This is their other waiting chair with a magazine rack.  To the right is the door & to the left is an old replica map of our town.  It's very cool to look at all the changes since the 1800s.

To the left are the 3 big metal desks & the huge printer.  I scored 2 desks for $55 total & spray painted them black.  They had a 3rd desk for free that I also sprayed black to match.  This helped pull the desks together since they were different non-matching desks.  We then took some nice black & whites of the town & matted & framed them.  I didn't take pictures of the work space.  It honestly is more functional than wowingly decorated.  They love their office & have been working diligently since the start of the month.

Please keep praying for lots of clients & for our families.  So far we are getting clients and calls, plus the guys love working for themselves!

Color Your Life

I often get asked by people that visit my house - "How do you pick your paint colors?"

Well, I'll be very honest - when we built - I originally had different paint colors in mind. I was leaning toward colors, but much less punchy & dramatic than what I actually did. I was thinking of pale turquoises, greens, & yellows.

What changed my mind was a visit to my local Ace store. They had these brochures of "personalities". I can't remember their names, but things like Casual, Modern, Timeless, Worldly, Dynamic - you get the point. These were basically fold outs with prepainted & decorated rooms with these themes of paint colors. I kept being drawn in to the brochure with the really outrageous & bold colors. I just couldn't get over how much I loved them. I believe my favorite was Worldly. However, I kept thinking - Can I pull this off? Is it me? What if I hate it?

Then, my husband said - if you hate it - we repaint, and my Mom said - go with what you love. I kept being drawn to the bold colors - so I went with it. Then the battle was on to which bold color goes where.

The week I delivered Everett - Jade took a week off of work. Then, he painted most of that week with my sisters & brother in law. I asked my Mom to come visit Everett for an hour & I went to our new house to check out my paint choices. I melted the moment I walked in the door. I remember thinking - this is so perfect. Every color was just right. I was thrilled!

So - here are my colors - and yes I ALWAYS carry paint swatches in my purse - for a just in case moment! When we built - I wanted textured knock down walls. It's not normal perhaps, but I like to "redecorate" a bit too much & nail holes are always an issue so my knock down hides that! I think the knock down really plays with my paint colors in wonderful ways. Plus, in real life my paint is bold, but not electric or shocking like some of my photos show. Even with a cool turquoise color - it feels warm and cozy. I hope my photos in the new year with a new camera improve!

(please note - this is a photo from my summer look - but it still portrays the paint in my foyer)

So here we go - all from Ace unless noted otherwise:

Living Room/Kitchen/Foryer: a dark turquoise - Forgotten Secret A38-5
