Living Room Redo...

You are all going to think I have lost my mind.  Like seriously, hopefully people get this new look!

I used to have two black leather sofas.  They weren't the most comfortable because the backs were tall and shoved your neck out.  To top it off at less than 5 years old the backs were starting to peel off - and yes that ticks me off because even with a warranty the company wouldn't fix it for us.

So I was forced to get creative.

A few years ago at a store I purchased two funky old sofas for like $75 total.  Cheap cheap.

Last week me, Mom, & Maggie decided to move the black sofas out and bring up the funky old ones.  Let me tell you - these babies are heavier than a mother!!

In 2 hours or less we carried 2 sofas down stairs and these bad boys up.  I have a U shaped staircase.  It was a circus.

There was a lot of cussing, pinched toes & fingers, and I'm pretty sure we all peed our pants laughing at least twice.

We all like the look.  It's funky.  We dig it.  We're weird like that.  They are super comfortable & very long.  My room feels bigger & not as dark.

Jade came home and gave me the "What the hell were you thinking look??"

Then he laid down and was like "Oh these are pretty nice."

Which goes back to my statement I keep reminding him of - I am always right - ha!

It also gave me a new spot to setup an art wall.  The family portrait is by Abbie, Trudie the pug is by me, the cat is Aubrie's and the blue blob is by Picasso-ish Everett.  I also have a spot to keep all Ollie's books separate from the bigs books & the stools are handy for the kids in the kitchen since it's an open floor plan & the kids love to taste & cook.

So what do you think?  And if you hate it - keep it to yourself - ha!

Bedroom Redo #3

Well tomorrow is June 1st.  That shocks me.

Today Mom & I finished up a job we have been working on.  We flipped 3 bedrooms for 3 little girls & had so much fun on this project.  You can see the last bedroom redo we tackled today here.

Ollie's surgery is quickly approaching.  June 9th will be here before I know it.  I have so much to do, but yet it's not close enough to do it.  Lots of packing for me & Jade, Ollie, and the big kids.  We will be busy.

We have finally nothing to do this week.  School is out.  So we are going to enjoy each other.  That means PJs all day, movies and popcorn in the afternoons, snuggles on the couch.  The kids can sleep in - yeah right.  The laundry & vacuum will take care of themselves - mm hmm.  It's gonna be a good week!

Exciting news to come :)

Bathroom Remodel Update

To get the scoop on why we remodeled our kids'/guest bathroom click here.  In all honesty it's been a very quick project, but with all the news about Ollie it took us longer than we expected.

Here is our new steel bathtub that I'm certain the kids won't punch holes through.  Jade then put up our cement board to prepare for our subway tile.

Here we are starting the tile.  I honestly did most of the tiling while he did the cutting, but I took the pictures so you won't see me in here.  Oh and hey Shannan - I have a cute maintenance man too!

Oh and without planning it we threw out some free advertisement with Jade's shirt - if you need a good mason or concrete work - call Fox & Austin - they do A-Mazing work.

Spacers are VERY important with subway tile.  They would slip and slide quite a bit so we had to take our time to make sure they lined up and matched in the corners.

We spent a lot of time in here tiling all the walls and hearing big stories from Aubrie about aminal friends and garbage birds.  Just so you know - garbage birds eat so much they can't fly, but if a coyote comes to eat them - they puke on the coyotes.  I didn't know this fun fact either, but some how she did.

That is the face of a hard working, concentrated man.

Here is the tile with no grout.  Pretty sweet eh!

This is the tile grouted with white.  It looks SO darn good.  I'm in love with it.  Please note we made a serious boo boo on this job.  We cut out extra dry wall when we ripped out the old shower surround to make this shower taller.  In the planning we planned on 3x6 tiles.  Then surprise, the bull nose tiles were 2x6.  So we had an extra inch gap between the drywall and cement board.  This required 3 coats of drywall to patch our mistake.

Looks great though doesn't it?

When we built, I opted for textured knock down walls.   I like to put a lot of holes in my walls with my endless projects & this helps my walls not look terrible.  So we had to buy a can of texture spray to make the walls blend.  Here is what that looks like before you knock it down.  It's called orange peel.

Here is the master carpenter, knocking down the texture.

Last night I put on 2 coats of Arugula paint, and tonight Jade caulks around the exterior.  Tomorrow night - oh yeah baby - the kids get in this tub & I get them out of my claw foot tub & trust me - I'm looking forward to that!

If you are just catching up.  Pray for baby Ollie - we go to the specialist the 26th & believe we'll have good news!

Kids' / Guest Bath Goes Fabulous!

I had updated the kids' / guest bathroom recently.  However, when we built I painted it tan.  Here is the before.  Tan isn't me, so I recently talked my wonderful husband into repainting.  We went with a bright emerald / jade green called Arugula 91322 from Color Place (Wal-Mart).  I'm just in love with the bathroom.  It relates so much more to the rest of my house now & my funky signs just pop against the wall.

.

I at first was a bit unsure of red accents with the green because that makes everyone think of Christmas - but I like it.

I love all my hilarious signs & the old print on the wall.

Perfectly placed above the TP - this sign is one of my favorites!

Aubrie's Room Redo

Recently my Mom came down and freshened up Aubrie's room a bit.  It was very shabby chic & that's not really me.  So she brought out an old duvet & some different sheers & voila - a new room.

Aubrie thought a fairy did it and was BEYOND excited!

Aunt Abbie loaned her a white vinyl chair that works perfectly in here.

Sparkle Pig & Sparkle Kitty protect her when she sleeps.  She also has a doll she named after her best friend, Millie, that was sewn to look like her - and boy it does!

Love her dresser ($40 steal!) & the fabulous picture by Jamie McDonald, my photographer friend.  She loves her stuffed animals - can you tell?!

More treasures and my hope chest I got when I turned 18.

Another view of Aubrie's new bright & cheery room!

Oh my - her father's daughter - see the bobble head Cardinals player!  Also, can you see all her snow globes.  Yes, she's 4 and collects snow globes year round.  She REALLY wants to share her room with the baby, so I explained that we may have to pack up some of her stuff that there won't be room for it all.  She was sad about the snow globes, but decided it was worth it for the baby - she's so sweet!

So this is her room redo, but alas it will change in the near future when baby #3 joins her in this room.  It will get a brand new look & she'll get a twin bed - so much work to do!

Basement Redo

OK so I found some amazing things!  My basement Before was OK, but I didn't love it.  I had a ship collection I liked, but it never felt very cohesive and a lot of my end tables were rummage sale $5 finds that I spray painted to match.  They worked, but it wasn't ever right.

That's all changed!  Flower Patch Farmgirl was so fabulous.   I had blogged that for YEARS I needed a periodic table of elements for my house.  Dear friends - she went to a school auction & got me one!  It made the room.  So now I have a "school" theme in my basement, but it's too cool for school really!

When you walk down the stairs this is what you see if you look to the left.  Don't you LOVE my table of elements?!?

This is to the right.  This is my vintage school house maps & we added the word Art.  You can also see my vintage globe collection on top of my sewing armoire.  I have 4 globes now.  The window is actually a door to the walk out patio.

I picked up these two school signs at 3rd Sunday market for $18 and the giant letters are from TJ Maxx clearance!

In all its glory - here is the Periodic Table of Elements I have been dreaming about for years and years!

Love the maps!

I picked up this fabulous little table for $42 at 3rd Sunday - it's the perfect color for down here - I love it!

I picked up this trunk for $50 - also love it!

Master Bath Update

So it wasn't this weekend.  However, I FINALLY got around to updating my bathroom a bit.  I put in a bit of color - so it's more me.

Please don't tell Pottery Barn, but the antelope looks better hot pink!

The coat rack that holds my towel got a new spritz of turquoise.

As did my candle base which is really an old piece of architecture - love it!

You haven't seen this, but behind the tub is a little shelf to hold my bath essentials.

It's as cute as I can make it considering I need to use soap & a razor daily!  It also ties my colors together nicely.

I'm bummed that I recently bought new brown towels & tan rugs.  I thought at the time it wasn't me, but it went with the leopard I'm also rocking in here.  I may have to trade those in for some hot pink & turquoise towels for the summer!  I also  need a super sized painting in our toilet room to replace what came out.  Remember the old signs I had in here that now adorn the main bathroom?  I'm thinking a 4' painting of a plunger or a can of Lysol - done by Abbie would perfectly fit the bill.  They would look great with the funky toilet & tub she already made for in here.  I know I'm crazy - but that's how I roll - unexpected is my favorite look!

Kids' Bath / Guest Bath - The After

Here is my kid / guest bathroom now. It is a HUGE improvement! I brought all of my funky signs out of our bathroom where they were hidden into plain view. It has more of an industrial feel which I love.

I have my ‘Danger, Do Not Enter Without Wearing Goggles’ sign in here which always cracks me up in a bathroom.

.

The famous poster of lunchtime on a sky scraper is topped off with a Please Do Not Flush While The Train Is In Station Sign right above the TP.

Behind the toilet is a really cool toolbox that my Mom gave me. I have a Julie sign which is appropriate for my Julie calling husband before every good dig. There are a few other hysterical signs here that I love as well - Receiving Room - Flushing Cigarette Butts Makes Them Soggy & Hard To Light - High Voltage.

The sink has the famous Loose Women sign and pops of red. Do you see Jade in the mirror giving me heck for taking photos of the bathroom?

My Mom gave me this funny donkey statue that was perfect in here with a fake plant in an old metal can.

I topped the room off with an animal print which I adore – zebra print! Oh do you see me? Jade thought it was hilarious that I matched the curtain I was hanging.  I have excellent posture too don't I - ha!

So now the question is paint color. I will most likely repaint this bathroom this summer when I’m not so busy getting ready for the spring show, but what do you think? I found a very orangish red I love and also a limey green. Keep in mind, around this room is a lot of color - a turquoise living room, a barn red bedroom, & a cornflower blue bedroom. Then the basement is school bus yellow & my room and bathroom are green, topped off with a Tide orange laundry room. The only color I don’t have is purple, but I’m not a huge purple person oddly enough.
