My Favorite Project To Date

So LeAnn at Vintage Sassy asked me - What is your absolute favorite piece of furniture that you found and painted?????

I realized - geez that's a tough one.  I've done a LOT of projects in my house.  I love to take ugly & cheap to fabulous!  Here are some of my favorites:  my bedroom set, Everett's armoire (I think this is a favorite by other bloggers because it's not as bold as I usually am - it is pretty fabulous though!), the turquoise desk, my pink coffee table.  I like to take on a lot - it makes me happy to see something transform!

However, my favorite piece by far is probably my coat armoire right when you come in the front door.  I don't know why I didn't paint it sooner!  The yellow just makes the space & I love it!  It's bold, but I wouldn't have it any other way!  I believe I paid around $75 or $80 for this when I was building my house - Mom spotted it & she was right - I needed it for an entry hall "coat closet".

Before - hideous cheap dark wood:

My oh my - LOVE the after:

Up My Sleeve

It seems that I'm always up to something...

This coffee table was originally a weird pinkish off white.  So I painted it red.

I liked it, but the red just didn't cover well enough, and it just didn't seem right.  That's when my Mom suggested hot pink.  And I said - YES!

So a trip to Ace, and a quart of Hibiscus later - it's fabulous!

Aubrie adored it & said please don't sell this - which I wasn't going to.  Even Everett said - WOW!

Play It Loud

OK so sometime last year Jade insisted we needed a piano.  He was obsessed with the idea of it.  So luckily I convinced him that we could get a used Craig's List piano.  This one was around $300 I believe.  Much better than the brand new one he was really wanting.

You see - my Jade is very musically inclined.  He should be - he's really talented.  He used to be lead singer of a band called Welfare Christmas - I know hilarious right!  He also could play the guitar quite well and oh he'd make the ladies melt when he sang.  So hilarious looking back - if only I could upload those old family videos on here for you!  Me - not so much.  So he has big dreams of piano practicing kids that are uber talented, but we'll see.  Everett has a chance - that boy can sing - Aubrie I believe takes after her Ma.

In the meantime I want to paint this piano.  You know me - wood is not my thing.  I've seen others painted & I believe I should do it.  So what color?  I adore red, but is that nuts?  Or should I do classic white - not really me, but it'd go with everything.  Mom votes some type of leopard print - which I love animal print, but I really don't know about that.  It's extreme for even me.  What do you think?

PS - I still have the piano bench, but Mom and I kind of liked the look of mismatched chairs instead.  Is it practical?  I have no idea - I don't play!

A Table for 6

I totally neglected you guys here. I almost forgot to get you a before photo! As you can tell - I had set it up and started painting when I remembered to get the shot!

This table my sweet Dad hand built for me the Christmas of '07. I adore it! It's a large harvest table that will seat 6 chairs, or 4 chairs & a long bench - he also built for me!

Originally I had painted this table black & stained the top. I have since decided to paint it a green tone to match my island.  I did the paint mixing in my basement with some blues & yellows I had on hand.

Once I put on 2 coats of the green paint - I really hit it hard with the sand paper - mainly because I wasn't sure about the color this time - it's a bit more sage than I wanted.

I really like the aged look I got from it & it actually goes quite well with my island considering I wanted a more kelly / cilantro green color.  Who knows - I may do a dry brush technique on it with a darker color in places - that may get me the island look I'm going for!

Please forgive the picture from the fall, but I had to share this baby with you again.  It is one of my prized possessions at a mere $325!  It's truly from the 1800's - an old store counter.  The vendor had rebuilt the right side since it was attached to the wall - but you can barely tell - they were that good!

A Dog Abode

Oh sweet Trudie! Her dog bed needed some love!

I spray painted it yellow & then scratched it up with sandpaper to make it look aged.

I took an old bed sham & that's her bed pillow. Then I sewed some throw pillows just for her.

She adores her bed - and truly sleeps in it!

Another Blogspace Redo!

The votes were tallied & you all agreed - paint this baby and paint her fast!

So I was forced to appease the masses.

I went with a color called Rossland A38-4 from Ace.  It is actually one shade lighter than my wall colors in my living room - Forgotten Secret A38-5.

I absolutely love my living room paint - love it so much I'd kiss it that's right! It looks fabulous with green so that's what I went with.

After the paint dried - I scuffed this baby up to make her look aged. I love the color & the new pop of turquoise inspired me to redo the entire bedroom.

I decided to make some more desk room & strung up my extra clocks on a hook & twine - love it!

I then took some old rulers & these are a great place to hold spare pictures - or display our sweet Ethel Edith business cards!

I also took some fabulous frames - hit them with some spray paint & they got a fabulous new look. Now my desk displays some of my favorite colors & favorite collections!

Stay tuned to see more of the bedroom redo tomorrow!

I obsess over spray paint!

I couldn't take it.

I'm obsessive...

so I went to Ace at lunch & got two cans of pink spray paint.  I only needed one I discovered.  I repainted Aubrie's chair tonight outside (outside!!! it was beautiful & light until 7ish!) that I had painted Sunday & posted earlier today here.

I love it now!  It looks like it was meant for her room now!

The turquoise color was brilliant as a starter paint choice because now it is peaking through just perfectly to give it an aged look!!

Oh how I adore beat up furniture!  Most people would toss this baby to the curve - but I like this part of the chair!

For a quick seat cushion - I took a sham from Aubrie's winter bedding out of her close.  I stuffed half of it with a small pillow - voila!

Even Everett adores Aubrie's new chair!  Isn't he pretty!  Such a mini-Jade!  The teddy bear he's loving on - I got when I was five from my Uncle Doug - he's perfectly worn.  I love that Ted Edward bear - Ted E. Bear - I was brilliantly clever at five!

At That Price - You Can't Afford Not Too!

A $5 chair & $7 of spray paint gave me a very sweet & girly chair.

This girl has serious curves & I adore the wicker seat.

I painted it a darker turquoise and then scratched it up.

Now that the chair has an official home after bouncing all over my house, she may have to go pink to please Aubrie Grace.  Aubrie kindly gave her old rocker to her brother Everett for his room redo.  She actually requests that this baby go pink, purple, & turquoise - a girl after her Mom's heart - but I'm not sure I'm capable of that task with spray paint!

Everett's Armoire

Do you ever slap paint on something & know that it's perfect?

Well - I completely got that feeling when the gray hit this cabinet.

I absolutely LOVE the end look. It's such an improvement from the old - dry wood looking armoire.

I used the existing knobs and spray painted them black.

I then really hit this baby with the sand paper - I aged it a lot & my favorite drawer is the one that is the roughest in the bunch!

Look at the feet on this baby - fabulous!

I rearranged furniture a bit & put this armoire against the big wall in his room instead of angled in the corner. Aubrie then gave her brother her brown wicker rocker for the corner after scoring a really girly chair for her room. I am really pleased with the look.

We have a nice place to sit now in his room - which was lacking before when we are doing bedtime (both kids sleep here so a seat was important!)

Get Your Blog On

Back in November, I blogged about our new workspace in our master bedroom here.  However, it didn't end up being as functional as we had hoped.  Jade started working some at home on the weekends, and well he needed a lot more room.  So again I went down to my basement of collected stuff.

I drug up a much bigger desk & a more comfortable & sturdy chair.  Again, I'm not sure that I'm going to paint this desk.  I actually kind of like it wood.  Which is a bit odd for me, but I think I do like it as it is.  So I'll live with it awhile and see what I think later.  It may get a paint job after all, but we'll see.

He was very pleased with the chair.  Bonus - the printer is no longer on the floor, but actually fits tucked away on the desk.  I wish it was more hidden, but much better than it was before.

This drives me crazy that the cork board is crooked in this photo, but you can see there is much more room with a laptop now.

I just thought I'd feature this box again because it's fabulous & my Mom added more clocks for me - she's wonderful like that!

So what do you think - should I paint that desk or leave it how it is?  If I should paint it - what color?!  I think a turquoise would be a great pop on my green walls - plus I LOVE turquoise, but I have no turquoise in my room right now - I'd have to buy some new throw pillows or bedding.  I have lots of greens, oranges, reds in here right now.
